The Accomplishments of Lindsay Rosenwald

When writing this compilation of accomplishments, I insisted that the words “in brief” be included in the title.  After all, even if this were a compendium of novels rather than a brief article, Dr. Lindsay Rosenwald’s actual accomplishments would surpass what has actually been written about.  While Lindsay Rosenwald’s accomplishments are most significant over the past two decades, the more appropriate place to start would be at the beginning of the education that allowed him to offer such a unique perspective in the financial and medical industries – leading to the revolutionary advancements that he is so largely responsible.

Lindsay Rosenwald was a graduate of Abington High School and quickly moved on to Pennsylvania State University, where he majored in Finance.  He graduated in 1977 as part of the business school honors society Betta Gamma Sigma.  He received his M.D. From the Temple Universitty School of Medicine in 1983 and worked in the Abington Medical Hospital prior to starting a private practice.  He decided to make a fundamental shift when he moved from running his own private practice to working as an adviser on Wall Street.  Having worked and studied in the medical industry (including relevant experience in the biotechnology, biomedical, and development industry) allowed him to offer relevant insights.  His experience in the financial industry allowed him to anticipate things that others with experience in the medical industry could easily have missed.

1991 saw the real beginning of Lindsay Rosenwald’s major accomplishments.  He established the companies known as the Paramount Group, using a unique construction which has since revolutionized the financial investment industry when it comes to medical development.  There are three major parts of the model that Lindsay Rosenwald constructed.  The first is the resource and capital generation division.  This group, as a certified broker-dealer, helps to generate capital for portfolio companies.  The second is the research group, which seeks out companies that are doing groundbreaking research that could have significant impact in the medical industry and which showed the potential for commercial success.  This group focuses on locating the companies with the most novel ideas and research.  The third is the corporate development group, which helps these newly funded companies receive the business support they need to successfully make business plans, structure themselves, and compete in today’s market.

Lindsay Rosenwald’s name is so easily recognized by so many in both the financial and medical industries.  The Bio Tech Group has funded over forty companies in the last two decades, including over a dozen over the last two years.  These companies have seen major success, both in impacting the industry and in being financially successful.  Among the financial successes of the companies that Lindsay Rosenwald helped develop are companies which were sold (for as much as $600 million) to companies that were acquired by major groups like Johnson & Johnson (with total acquisitions totaling nearly $1.1 billion).  From an industry standpoint, however, the greater success lies in new treatments for diseases like prostate cancer, leukemia, and solid tumors.  One of the  companies also holds the current record for fastest FDA approval of a drug.

Beyond the financial success and the way in which Dr. Rosenwald’s perspective and unique model have impacted the industry, Lindsay Rosenwald is also a true philanthropist.  In the midst of continuing work, Dr. Rosenwald founded the Rosenwald Foundation.  The Foundation, a non-profit organization, has donated literally hundreds of millions of dollars to medical education institutions as well as other parts of the scientific community.

All of these things have been possible because of the sort of person that Lindsay Rosenwald is and the sort of path he chose to pursue.  His dual expertise has allowed him to offer insights and foresee challenges in a way that no one else could.  His selfless actions and perspective have allowed him to continue his hard work in an effective way that has built up dozens of companies and assisted the scientific community on the whole.

No list of his accomplishments could really be complete, but as far as a general outline goes, this should give a fairly good idea of what Lindsay Rosenwald has established.  With dozens and dozens of new medications being created by the companies, with the significant influence of the Rosenwald Foundation, and with more yet to come, Lindsay Rosenwald’s positive impact on the medical industry is undeniable.
